Ways in this season

Three journeys we would take this winter. Draw this line puts the place in the composer above, ready for your own city and date; nothing is searched until you press Find routes.

  • A thatched seaplane lounge at the end of a long jetty over a green lagoon

    The Maldives, by seaplane

One connection in the Gulf. Then the seaplane to the villa.

Through Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Malé, then about 45 minutes by seaplane to Soneva Jani. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so the connection decides the day.

The line is drawn from Zurich, as an example. Stand-in: the seaplane lounge at Medhufushi, Meemu Atoll. Priyaflorenceshah, CC BY-SA 4.0

  • The curved white balconies of Faena Hotel, Miami Beach

    Miami Beach, for Art Basel

Twenty-five minutes from the runway. Sunset on Collins Avenue.

Into Miami International, then about 25 minutes by road to Faena, traffic allowing. Art Basel Miami Beach runs 4 to 6 December.

  • The short sloping runway of Courchevel altiport in deep snow, seen from above

    Courchevel, by private jet

A jet to the valley. A helicopter to the snow.

Jets land at Chambéry. The altiport above the resort takes only small propeller aircraft and helicopters, so a helicopter makes the last stretch. The jet's price is an estimate from the aircraft's hourly rate.

How the line is drawn

What happens between Find routes and the journey you book, in four frames. For example, from Frankfurt to the Maldives.

  1. 1Draw the plan

Say where you are going and where from. The line stays dashed while it is only a plan, with a hairline to every hub we will ask, up to 10.

  2. 2Ask every hub

Press Find routes and only the chart turns to night. Each hub lights when its own answer arrives, and says what it found or why not.

  3. 3First light

The best line stays, solid. The others fade on the map but stay in the list: every journey found is shown.

  4. 4The journey

It opens in local time, door to villa, with the seaplane and the stay at the end. You book with the airline at the fare shown.

Questions

What is a search?

One search is one departure date, with every hub you chose, up to 10. We ask those hubs for live fares at once and lay out every journey found, from your door to the place you are going. Each extra date is one more search.

What does it cost?

Packs from €5. Searches never expire, and there is no subscription. At the best rate a search costs €0.64. Nothing is charged if no route is found.

Where can I fly from?

From your own city or airport, anywhere with scheduled flights. Type it in From and we remember it on this device for next time. The cities on this page's maps are only examples.

Do you sell tickets?

No. Each journey links to the airline, or the agency selling that fare, and you book with them at the fare shown. We never resell tickets or add a mark-up. Fares move, so the price when you book is the airline's.

Can the last leg be a private jet?

Yes. Choose Private jet and the last leg of the journey becomes a jet. Its price is an estimate from the hourly rate for that aircraft, never a quote, and it always says so. The partner charter desks confirm the real figure and the aircraft.

Can I cancel a search?

Yes. Cancel stops a search while it runs, and once a day a cancelled search is refunded and nothing is saved to your history. After that, Cancel still stops the wait, but the search is charged and its journeys stay in your history; the button tells you before you press it. A search that finds no route is never charged.

Where do the fares come from?

Airline fares come from Google Flights, live at the moment you search. A private-jet leg is estimated from the flight time, an hourly charter rate for the aircraft and landing fees, with the charter market's price range beside it where there is one. Empty legs are the operators' own listings on the Aviapages board, sampled once a week.
