Trans Maldivian flies to Baa Atoll in daylight only, so the whole journey is built backwards from one seaplane. The house takes your shoes at the plane; the trick is not money but the morning arrival.
The line we searched: Emirates out of Heathrow at ten to five in the afternoon, the night over the Gulf, ninety-five minutes in Dubai before dawn, Malé by half past nine and the 11:15 seaplane north. Barefoot by lunch.
Fifteen hours and twenty-five minutes, door to jetty, and the seaplane is the only leg with Baa Atoll in the window.

At the end of the line
Soneva Fushi takes up Kunfunadhoo, an island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The villas sit back from the beach under the trees, and the house rule of no news, no shoes starts at the jetty.

Seaplanes to Baa Atoll fly in daylight only, so a late landing in Malé can mean the transfer waits for the morning.
