Ten guests, one chef, and the south face of Denali filling every window.
The line we searched: Virgin Atlantic to New York, then Alaska Airlines on through Portland to Anchorage. A dawn taxi reaches Talkeetna by eight, and the ski-plane lifts at ten.
Thirty-two hours and twenty minutes, door to glacier: the longest line in the ledger.
The place
Sheldon Chalet sits on a rock outcrop above the Ruth Glacier in the Don Sheldon Amphitheater, inside Denali National Park, and takes ten guests at a time.
Guests fly in from Talkeetna onto the glacier, and only when the weather allows.
