Explora Patagonia

The road that outlasts the flight.

Explora's lodge sits at the foot of the Paine massif, with no other roof for kilometres. Past Punta Arenas, every kilometre left is driven.

No airline sells a business seat from Santiago to Punta Arenas, so the search turned that leg into a private jet.

The line we searched: Air France from Heathrow through Paris to Santiago, then a chartered Global 5000 south to Punta Arenas, then four hours and twenty-one minutes of gravel with the towers ahead the whole way.

Twenty-seven hours and thirty-six minutes, door to lodge, and the drive lasts longer than the flight before it.

The place

Explora's lodge stands on the shore of Lake Pehoé inside Torres del Paine National Park, facing the granite of the Paine massif. Days are built around guided walks and rides from the door.

From Punta Arenas the lodge is a long drive north, around four to five hours.
