Every water taxi is booked and every mooring on the Lido spoken for. The house keeps its own launch regardless.
The line we searched: British Airways from Heathrow at twenty to five, Marco Polo by eight. The launch waits until ten, once the boats thin out, then thirty minutes over dark water to a door no queue reaches.
Four hours and fifty minutes, door to jetty. The launch is the only vehicle allowed at that door.

At the end of the line
Hotel Cipriani has looked across the water from the eastern tip of Giudecca to San Marco since 1958. The hotel's own launch is the way across.
From Marco Polo airport the last leg is by boat across the lagoon; there is no road to Giudecca.
